Naidheachd / teachdaireachd brosnachail gu dearbh fhéin. Ach tha dìth luchd-teagaisg orra mu-thràth, agus chan eil àiteachan-oilhigh gu leòr ann fhathast airson teagasg na Gàidhlig ionnsachadh.

Bu toil leam fhìn a dhol air ais nam thidsear (fiù 's airson luchd-tòiseachaidh) - tha ceuman gu leòr eile agus dòigh-teagaisg chànanan agam mu-thràth, ach chan eil ach Cùrsa Adhartais agam mar 'cheum Ghàidhlig' - chuala mi gum feumadh a bhith bliadhna a bharrachd agam, co-dhìu, agus chan eil ùine agam an Diploma air astar a dhèanamh leis an t-seòrsa obrach a th' agam a-nis.

Seadh seadh... bha Òraid an t-Sabhail againn a-nis... poileatags, poileatags, poileatags.... ach cha deach mi ann. Rinn mi cinnteach gun robh fìon gu leòr aca agus gun d' fhuair iad uile am biadh a bha iad ag iarraidh.

Agus co-dhiù, dè am feum tha barrachd luchd-bruidhinn, mura h-eil an fheadhainn a tha ann mar-thà ga cleachdadh. Tha 90% anns na Gaeltachtai ann an Èirinn comasach air Gaeilge a bhruidhinn, ach chan e ach 9% a nì e! Agus tha mi a' faicinn an aon rud a tachairt ann an Alba. Foghlam foghlam foghlam agus meadhanan... ach mar a tha aig J. Fishman.... Tha Alba a' cur cus cuideim air "na h-innleachdan gleansach le inbhe àrd", an àite coimhead air ìre coimhearsnachd agus teaghlaich. Chan eil mi a' smaoineachadh gu bheil foghlam gu mòran feum airson na Gàidhlig mura h-eil na daoine moiteil às a' chànan agus a' faireachdainn gum b' fhiach e a bhruidhinn... blablabla B' urrainn dhomh aiste a sgrìobhadh mu dheidhinn sin.

Tha mi toilichte gu bheil an riaghaltas a' dèanamh rudeigin, ach is dòcha gum biodh e math bruidhinn ri dealbhadairean cànain an toiseach.

Agus buidheann-rannsachaidh eile.....

a tha a' tòiseachadh le Beurlachas uabhasach: Airson a chleachdadh sa bhad

blablablabla....eile

Mìcheal

(Beurla gu h-ìosal)

SFCPR/17/09

Ceann-là: 7 Dùbhlachd 2009
Airson a chleachdadh sa bhad

`Soillseachadh' ùr Albannach a' faighinn maoin tasgaidh
co-obrachail de £5.29 millean

Tha maoineachadh de £5.29 millean airson rannsachadh gus taic is
ath-bheothachadh a thoirt air cànan is cultar na Gàidhlig gu bhith air a
cho-roinn eadar ceithir institiudan foghlaim àrd-ìre ann an Alba ann an
ro-innleachd rannsachaidh ùir.

'S e com-pàirteachais rannsachaidh a tha ann an Soillse, a tha a' gabhail
a-steach Institiud nam Mìle Bliadhna (OGE) agus Oilthighean Obar Dheathain, Dhun Èideann agus Ghlaschu. Tha Comhairle Maoineachaidh na h-Alba (SFC) a' cur £1.866 millean ris le £2.483 millean a' tighinn bho na h-institiudan, £0.541 millean bho Bhòrd na Gàidhlig agus £0.4 millean bho Iomairt na Gàidhealtachd's nan Eilean.

Thèid am maoin tasgaidh a chleachdadh gus sàr luchd-rannsachaidh fhastadh, naoi sgoilearachdan ollamhachd a stèidheachadh thar nan institiudan com-pàirteachaidh, le co-dhiù ceithir dhiubh an co-bhoinn ri buidhnean aig a bheil ùidh sa Ghàidhlig, agus co-labhairt bliadhnail air a chumail gus lorgaidhean nan rannsachaidhean a thaisbeanadh.

Bidh e na phrìomh dhleastanas aig Soillse fios a chumail ri Riaghaltas na
h-Alba mu na prìomhachasan eaconomach is sòisealta airson na Gàidhlig. Bidh na ceithir institiudan ag obair an com-pàirt le prìomh bhuidhnean, leithid Bhòrd na Gàidhlig, gus am fiosrachadh a chaidh a chruinneachadh bhon rannsachadh a cho-roinn airson fios a chumail ri oidhirpean nàiseanta is ionadail gus tionndadh a thoirt air crìonadh na Gàidhlig agus gus cleachdadh na Gàidhlig a bhrosnachadh ann an ceàrnaidheanan far nach eilear ga bruidhinn gu dualchasach.

Thuirt Mark Batho, Àrd-oifigear an SFC: "Tha eachdraidh bheairteach is ioma-dhathach aig Alba agus chluich a' Ghàidhlig pàirt chudromach san eachdraidh sin. Tha sinne dhan bheachd gu bheil e cudromach gum bi cànan is cultar na Gàidhlig air a bhrosnachadh gus a bhith a' cinneachadh is a' leasachadh agus tha mi toilichte gun urrainn dhuinne agus na
com-pàirtichean eile rannsachadh a mhaoineachadh gus am pàirt sònraichte seo de dhearbh-aithne na h-Alba a chumail beò."
Thuirt Mìcheal Ruiseal, Rùnaire a' Chaibineit airson Foghlam is Ionnsachadh Fad-beatha: "Tha mi cinnteach gun cluich an com-pàirteachas seo pàirt chudromach ann a bhith a' dealbhadh mar a bhios sinn a' gluasad air adhart le ar n-obair ann a bhith ag adhartachadh na Gàidhlig thar nam
bliadhnaichean a tha romhainn.

"Feumadh sinn ginealach ùr de luchd-labhairt Gàidhlig a chruthachadh gus
meur bheairteach de bheatha chultarail na h-Alba agus coimhearsnachd
cànain sònraichte ann an Alba a dhìon.

"Seach gu bheil com-pàirtichean Soillse sgaoilte air feadh gach
ceàrnaidh den dùthaich, chithear gu bheil oidhirpean ga dèanamh air
feadh Alba gus stad a chur air an crìonadh ann an àireamh luchd-labhairt
na Gàidhlig."

Bòrd na Gàidhlig welcomes career opportunities
through Gaelic funding boost from Scottish Funding Council
Use: immediate

Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the Gaelic development agency, has welcomed confirmation that new career pathways and research opportunities will be created in Gaelic studies through the allocation by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) of £5.28 million for research into the support and revitalisation of the Gaelic language and culture.

The investment will be shared among four Scottish higher education institutions in the latest academic research pooling initiative. Arthur Cormack, Chair of Bòrd na Gàidhlig, today welcomed the SFC initiative which was confirmed by Minister for Education Mike Russell MSP in the Annual Sabhal Mòr Lecture in Skye

Mr Cormack said: "Bòrd na Gàidhlig is pleased to support the establishment of Soillse, which offers us all significant new opportunities and directions. It is vital that Gaelic development in the future is underpinned by sound research and planning so that the Bòrd, and other agencies, can make informed decisions as to the initiatives that are most likely to succeed in supporting our delivery of the National Plan for Gaelic for our communities. Not only will the partnership bring together considerable expertise but will create hugely attractive career pathways for emerging talent, through PhD studentships, to engage with Gaelic research into language development now, and in the future."

Soillse (pronounced SOIL-shuh) which is Gaelic for "enlightenment", is a research partnership among UHI Millennium Institute (UHIMI) and the Universities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Bòrd na Gàidhlig's contribution to the overall cost is £0.54 million. The Scottish Funding Council (SFC) is investing £1.86 million, with £2.48 million being invested by the institutions, and £0.4 million from Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

The investment will be used to recruit research staff, create nine PhD studentships based across the partner institutions, with at least four to be in collaboration with Gaelic stakeholders, and contribute to the operating costs including establishing a Research Co-ordination Group and an annual conference.

The key function of Soillse will be to inform the Scottish Government's economic and social priorities for Gaelic. The four institutions will work in partnership with key agencies, such as Bòrd na Gàidhlig, to share the information gleaned from their research to inform national and local efforts to maintain and reverse the decline of the Gaelic language, and encourage the use of Gaelic in areas other than the Highlands and Island where it has not been traditionally spoken since the Middle Ages.
Arthur Cormack added: "It is vital that we highlight the benefits that investment in Gaelic are creating and that this type of project, offering students high quality research positions in academic institutions in their own communities, is recognised for what it is. The creation of Soillse will enable us all to show how our initiatives and support mechanisms are working and how we need to target our efforts to grow the use of Gaelic throughout our communities. Soillse will help us offer a framework and climate within which we can develop the language through increased usage at all levels, in as wide a range of activities as possible. These new opportunities at a time of harsh economic reality are of huge benefit to our communities."

Notes to editors: Soillse, which is receiving investment from the Council's Horizon Fund for Universities, is aligned with Bòrd na Gàidhlig's National Plan for Gaelic (2007-12). SFC's draft Gaelic Language Plan (to be published early next year) also states that SFC will support the provision of Gaelic in colleges and universities, including the development of Soillse.
The Scottish Funding Council (SFC) is responsible for allocating £1.7 billion of public funds each year to colleges and universities in support of Scottish Government priorities. SFC was established by the Scottish Parliament in 2005 and is a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. For further information, please see www.sfc.ac.uk
